Steenson College Coaching

Stand out in the college admissions process.

My name is Nancy Steenson, and I love helping students with the college search and application process. I help take the stress out of the process, ensure an appropriate timeline that will prevent procrastination, and, by taking the lead role in guiding your student, remove a major source of contention between parents and their high school students. Guidance counselors play a key role, but they are stretched too thin. I can bridge the gap and help students differentiate themselves in this competitive arena.

Why Hire a College Consultant?

College admissions officers read thousands of applications in a few short months. They work efficiently and decisively. I can share strategies that help students stand out and be noticed. Many students spend an enormous amount of time and money on SAT prep, but that’s only half the battle. Other parts of the application, like the essay, are also extremely important to the admissions process.

Why Hire Me?

Working on porch

As a graduate of Tufts University, and having served on the Timberlane Regional School Board for six years, I've seen too many students underestimate the college admissions process. I work one-on-one with students to help them market themselves in their best light. I have experience helping them find their voice to develop powerful and compelling essays that are more likely to catch the attention of admissions officers.  Allow me to help you to tell your story.

Some questions I can help answer:

  • When is a good time to start this process?

  • How can I increase my chance of admission at very selective or “reach” schools?

  • What kind of essay will get me noticed?

  • How can I be sure my recommendations are the best they can be?

  • Am I eligible for a merit scholarship? Financial aid? What’s the difference?

  • What kinds of classes should I be taking in high school?

  • How do I summarize 4 years of activities into an impressive format?

  • How many times should I take the SAT’s? What about the ACT?
