Agnes Scott College

Agnes Scott College, in Decatur, Georgia, is a small college six miles from downtown Atlanta. It was founded by the Presbyterian church but is no longer affiliated, and admits students who were assigned female at birth, as well as those who were assigned male or female at birth, but who now identify as female, transgender, agender, gender-fluid or non-binary. When I visited, the total student population was 1081, and the undergraduate population was 902. 57% of them are students of color, with no racial or ethnic majority. The campus is gorgeous, and housing is guaranteed and required for 4 years. The most popular majors are psychology, business management, public health, neuroscience, biology, and political science. There are 3+2 programs with Emory University in computer science and nursing, and with Georgia Tech in Engineering.

We heard from a panel of students who were very candid. One said that "No one who is popular in high school comes here." Another said that everyone is very academically focused. A third one said there's a very strong nerdy and artsy vibe on campus. Additionally, our tour guide said that monthly bingo is the most popular event on campus and they play for free groceries, and that socially, weekends are quiet, as a lot of the in- state students go home.

Here's what I like: Agnes Scott was ranked Most Innovative College 7 straight years, #3 for First-Year Experiences, #3 for Best Undergraduate Teaching, and #4 for Social Mobility by US News and World Report.

With a class of 2024 Rhodes Scholar they can brag about, and 100% of students receiving merit scholarships, Agnes Scott College is a great place for the right student.
