It was an absolutely beautiful day for our tour at Champlain college in Burlington Vermont! We were told that Champlain is "different by design," and that is a perfect description! Champlain is a niche school with a career-focused, upside-down curriculum: the core curriculum is not taught first, but concurrently as students jump right into their majors. Classes are project-based with no papers or tests. Also, Champlain is a deskless campus; all classrooms have only multi-person tables to encourage collaboration. The hottest majors here involve gaming: Game Media, Game Art, Game Business & Publishing, Game Design, Game Production & Management, Game Programming, and Game Sound Design. So it's no surprise that the only varsity sport is Esports, which is one of the biggest clubs on campus - they compete nationally and internationally. But for athletes, don't worry! Club sports are also very popular. Academically, Champlain offers a lot of other exciting majors in the fields of business, media, communications, computers, education, filmmaking, sustainability and more. Some very cool examples are App Development, Interaction Design, and Professional Writing. For skiers, a season pass at Sugarbush is $50 and there are 5 other ski resorts within an hour's drive. There's never an application fee, and I'll just add that Burlington is a very cool college town!
