It was a cold day in Hamilton, NY on our visit to Colgate University. Admissions was not able to set us up with a tour, but one of my colleagues reached out to a wonderful young man who's a family friend. He was super! Thank you, Joseph! Here's what impressed me most: The Colgate Commitment guarantees zero loans for all families with an annual income of $150,000 or less. Also, the career center has 190 formal recruiting partners - these connections undoubtedly benefit their students in pursuing internships and jobs. It's also worth noting that there is an Office of National Fellowships and Scholarships which is dedicated entirely to just that. Also, a recent $5 million gift will support a Plan for the Arts, Creativity, and Innovation to encourage arts initiatives and creative thinking. Entrepreneurship is also valued here. Thought Into Action is a program that supports aspiring entrepreneurs and Campus Venture Initiative provides certification and resources to those entrepreneurs to launch their business and sell goods on campus. So it's not all liberal arts, folks. Lastly, we were told that there has been a recent gift of $25 million to renovate the athletics center. If it turns out as beautiful as the rest of the facilities here, I'm sure it'll be gorgeous.
