I had a great visit to Marymount Manhattan College in New York City recently. It's so well integrated into its upper east side neighborhood that you hardly notice it's a campus. There are 2 residence halls and they're both quite a distance away. One is16 blocks south and one is all the way down in the East Village. Between the two of them, they provide housing for almost half the students. Housing is available on a first-come first-served basis. Performing arts majors are the most selective programs at Marymount Manhattan, and and there is no pre-screening for auditions. These programs also make up about 50% of the student body. For students of any major, New York City is an amazing place for internships. Recent students at Marymount have had internships at JP Morgan Chase, NBC, ABC News, MTV, NYC Ballet, the Met, MOMA, Lincoln Center and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Here's something very cool: Marymount Manhattan offers degree programs to women incarcerated at 2 New York State prisons. Recidivism among these released graduates is virtually zero, compared to the national average of almost 44%. How cool is that?
