Lewis and Clark College, 6 miles from downtown Portland, Oregon is a stunningly beautiful campus on a former private estate. I understand the weather can be challenging there, but it was absolutely beautiful the day I visited. It feels like an English country estate replete with gorgeous flowering bushes and beautifully manicured gardens everywhere. Additionally, Tryon Creek State Park is a 5 minute walk away, and it offers eight miles of trails. Lewis and Clark has an outdoors club which offers a hundred trips per year including excursions to Mt. Hood, which I'm told is the only mountain in the country where one can ski all 4 seasons! This is a traditional liberal arts college with 2200 students where the research assistants are undergraduates. There's a brand new data science program and a new entrepreneurial leadership program which can attach to any major. Psychology is the most popular major here - we hear that a lot. But all students graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree, which I've not heard of before. I'm told that social justice activism is intense here; it's radically inclusive, incredibly diverse, and accepting of gender identity and sexuality. 15% of the incoming class identifies as non-binary, and all residents halls are gender inclusive.

There is a law school and we were told Lewis and Clark is ranked #1 for environmental law. There are also graduate programs in education and counseling. 60% of students use the Office of Disability Services at some point during their 4 years at Lewis and Clark. Regarding student life, here are some nuggets I picked up: there's a brand new student center that opened last week. I'm only sorry it was locked and we couldn't get in to see it. And students come to athletic games to support their friends, not because they care about athletics, lol.

With merit scholarships of up to $36K, Lewis and Clark is a great liberal arts college for students more committed to activism than school spirit. It would also be a gorgeous place to spend 4 years.
