What a great visit to Northeastern University in Boston with 3 of my wonderful friends and colleagues today! Most people know that Northeastern is known for its experiential learning through their co-ops. But here are some things you might not know: Northeastern is ranked number 2 in the country as a host institution for international students. Northeastern has a single door admission policy for all majors including nursing and engineering, although switching into those majors may require additional semesters. Northeastern believes that research is and should be collaborative, not competitive. This is manifested in the architecture of the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex which has an enormous amount of glass and transparency so that people can look into the labs of others doing research! How great is that? The world-renowned Museum of Fine Arts is right across the street and Northeastern students get in free with their ID. They also get discounted Red Sox tickets. My favorite department at Northeastern is American Sign Language and I love that the entire faculty is deaf so it is truly an immersion program. A few more fun facts: 53% of Northeastern graduates receive a job offer from a co-op employer. Also, during freshman orientation, there is an entire day devoted to safety. Good to know for an urban campus! Lastly, I'm told there are more club sports at Northeastern than any northeast school - 50 of them! With over 360,000 college students in the Boston area, Northeastern is a wonderful place to spend 4 years.
