I had a great visit to the Rochester Institute of Technology during my tour of New York State colleges. RIT has some fascinating programs and majors, but let's start with Engineering. They have a College of Engineering as well as a College of Engineering Technology. The former is a traditional approach to engineering and the latter is more hands-on and is more approachable for high school students with a less rigorous transcript or lower grades and test scores. But RIT offers so much more than engineering! It is a wonderful college for art and design, computing and information, digital media, game design and more! Some of my favorite majors here are Industrial Design, Medical Illustration, Imaging Science, Computing Security, Human-Centered Computing, Packaging Science, and Film and Animation. While RIT doesn't offer majors in the performing arts, they are very much looking to grow that program for all students. There is a music performance theater opening in 2024 and they offer music performance scholarships. Speaking of facilities, there's a new athletic stadium coming as well! RIT is also well renowned for their program in American Sign Language. In fact, it's worth noting that 6% of the students here have a hearing impairment. Students can apply to the Rochester Institute of Technology directly to a major or they may apply to one of the college-based exploration options. RIT is only 33% women, but they are the first engineering college in the US named for a woman. Ladies, I think you have your work cut out for you! Check out RIT!
