Counselor Day at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH! I was really struck by the incredibly strong sense of community. There's lots to love. First of all, I'm told that 30 students is a big class here. All freshmen take a yearlong humanities course. First semester, they ask questions about themselves, their community and the divine. Second semester, they consider politics, rhetoric, democracy, the nature of science and beauty, and the place of art in our lives. Required texts include Plato, Sophocles, St. Augustine, Mary Shelley. De Tocqueville, Shakespeare and the Declaration of Independence.I want to take this class!

And then there's the NH Institute of Politics on campus. For starters, it's a gorgeous building with an impressive collection of presidential memorabilia. Perhaps you already know that they host a presidential debate every 4 years. In addition to that, they have politicians and candidates coming through regularly; we saw Senator Tom Cotton there today taping an interview with one of the top news stations, and Senator Jeanne Shaheen is a regular there taping segments for Meet the Press. And 130 non-partisan student ambassadors are deeply involved in all of this. Students who are passionate about politics need to give serious consideration to St. A's!
