While at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont for the NEACAC conference, I enjoyed touring campus and chatting with admissions officers. I was struck by the strong sense of community and the tight-knit, supportive environment. One of the most impressive organizations on campus is the Saint Michael's Fire and Rescue Squad, which is entirely student run. Students can train and be certified here, and they serve the campus and surrounding area 24/7 by answering over 3000 calls per year. Also, for those interested in getting more pre-health experience, UVM Medical Center is just down the road. Another popular organization on campus is the Adventure Sports Center, which runs excursions all year round and also offers certifications in outdoor leadership. There's also a shuttle to Sugarbush which is just under an hour away and student passes run between $50 and a $150 for the season. There's also a shuttle to Sugarbush which is just under an hour away and student passes run between $50 and a $150 for the season. When I asked how many students buy those passes, I was told 800, which is a big number in a school of 1450 undergrads! Downtown Burlington, a great college town, is 15 minutes away, and Saint Michael's students get free city bus passes. Some new majors are Public Health, Health Equity Studies, Criminology, and Equity & Justice Studies. Merit scholarships are awarded very holistically and they begin at $17,000 and go up to $30,000. They also give a $1500 grant for visiting Saint Michael's and a $1500 grant for completing the FAFSA.
