Great visit to Salve Regina University in Newport, the first of a sweep of Rhode Island colleges with my dear independent counselor friends. The campus is absolutely gorgeous. I've long known that Salve has a very strong nursing program, but I didn't know they have a major in cultural and historic preservation with a laboratory featuring equipment and software used by professional preservationists. Creative Writing and Publishing is a brand new major, and some other new programs include a 3+2 Bachelors and a 3+3 Masters degree in Engineering with Washington University in St Louis and a 3+3 PharmD program with St Joe's in Hartford. All Elementary Ed and Early Childhood Ed majors are strongly encouraged to double major in Special Ed - brilliant! This way they hit the job market as competitive candidates. With classes capped at 35 students, merit scholarships up to $25K and Walk-in Wednesdays every week at the career center, there's a lot to like about Salve Regina!
