Great visit to Simmons University, a women-centered institution in Boston today, one of the 5 Colleges of the Fenway. I often think of its outstanding nursing program, but Simmons has many more majors, including great 3+1 programs - I love the BA in economics, poly sci or sociology with a master's in Public Policy, and the BS in computer science with a master's in Library & Information Science. Or the 4+1 BS in biology or exercise science with a master's in nutrition and health promotion. The residential campus is a block or two away from the academic campus, but there's a plan to sell that property once a new building is completed on the main (academic) campus - shooting for 2025. The new building will include a brand new science center and state-of-the-art nursing simulation lab. Simmons borders the world-famous Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and that, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts, is free to all students. They also get discounted tickets to the Red Sox, Aquarium and Museum of Science. Simmons is very generous with merit awards and even awards 15 to 20 full-ride scholarships per year (which students must apply for). Lastly, it's important to note that we define women's colleges a little differently now than we used to. At Simmons, students who identify as women, trans, non-binary and gender fluid are all welcome.
