Retired Rear Admiral Thomas Luscher gave me a great tour of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. I learned that one cannot get a bachelor of arts at the Naval Academy, only a bachelor of science degree, because even though there are a few humanities and social science majors, a Naval Academy degree in any major includes a core curriculum of many required science classes. The Division of Engineering and Weapons offers 9 different majors, including Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering as well as Nuclear Engineering. The Division of Mathematics and Science offers 10 majors, including Cyber Operations, Oceanography, and Operations Research. But students don't just come here to study. They come to train and be commissioned as officers in the US Navy or Marine Corps and serve our countryfor a leadt five years aftergraduation. Candidates must impress academically, they must pass a medical exam as well as a physical fitness test, and they must obtain a nomination. Additionally, successful candidates have a strong history of leadership and athletic involvement. Also, since duty, honor and loyalty are of utmost importance to the Naval Academy, a strong moral character is important as well. Students' schedules are highly structured with little downtime. But there are many recreational as well as competitive clubs, 12 choral ensembles, 4 instrumental ensembles, and 16 faith-related clubs.

The campus is very beautiful with many historic buildings including Memorial Hall where aumni who gave their life in service are memorialized.

If you feel called to this selfless life of service then the Naval Academy may be a good fit for you. If admitted, you will receive a full 4-year scholarship including room and board, medical and dental care and a monthly salary of $1185. Thank you to all who serve!
