University of Kansas

I had a great visit to the University of Kansas, the state flagship university in Lawrence. This is the closest major university (50 minutes) to the Kansas City airport, which flies nonstop all over the country. KU has many different colleges with all kinds of majors including architecture, nursing, American sign language & deaf studies, business, the arts, and South Slavic studies. Yes, you read that right.

Some fun facts: KU has produced 27 Rhodes Scholars, and KU grads have done great things, including discovering vitamins A and D. Bob Dole is a famous alumnus and there is now the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics on campus. As an R1 research institution, KU received $292 million in externally funded research last year.

Also notable is that KU was ranked number 5 for the past 2 years as the best school in the country for veterans. Impressive! I'm told their basketball team, the Jayhawks, are pretty good too.
